D0129 T1313 Y2007HBO Forerunners

Welcome readers to another Clan Profile for this frigid week of January. This week I take a look at the HBO Forerunners. They take their prefix from the ever-popular Halo site, Halo.Bungie.Org, otherwise known as HBO (not the movie channel). Hopefully if you are reading this right now you know all about HBO. If you are interested in more information then drop by the Forerunner’s Site and take a look. I took a more direct route and chatted with them personally. Here are their responses. This one is a tad different as a few different people chimed in on the answers.

  • How and when did your clan start up?

Ninj (TS N1NJ4): The HBO clan story is long and boring. Obviously a lot of HBO people wanted a way to get together and play around the time that halo came out. One clan wasn’t enough, so it split into 5. KP was put in charge of the whole deal. Clans were split up by location west, central, east, everywhere else and competitive. Due to overlord troubles and various scandals, we are now down to three clans, and of those only two are active in any real capacity. Much love to our little girly sister clan the HBO Helljumpers. I think we are about a year and a quarter old by now. I remember a birthday…
Stee(n1ghthawk117): Yep we’re HBO’s Midwest clan, and no, we don’t like corn.

  • What meaning does your clan’s name hold?

Trev: Erm… That we have been around for a long time, and no matter how far gone we become, how distant from our roots we stray, we will forever remain a legacy, if not for the world, than for each other. No Forerunner ever gets forgotten, take it from me, I left for a year, came back, and resumed things as if I never left.
Ninj: History according to Trev… All of the HBO (halo.bungie.org) clans were supposed to be named after something from the halo universe. Forerunners sound pretty cool, so I chose the forerunners.

  • How many people call your clan home?

Dan (DJstan): I’d say just the right amount.
Stee: According to B.Net there’s 55. The core of our clan is a AwesomeMcTacular group of a dozen or so who interact with the clan daily through IRC and our forums.

  • How do you go about luring and screening recruits?

uber (uberhax0r): They flock to us based on how much coolness we radiate, which is a lot. I’m not sure how we screen…I’m not even sure how I got in.
Stee: We don’t need to recruit. Do you see Bungie recruiting recruiting people to buy Halo? No, people pay for that stuff. It’s the same situation here.
Ninj: Yeah, that’s about it. If people want to join, they are in. I screen them by taking forever to add them to the clan list. If they still want to play with us, they have the right stuff.

  • What are some unique bylaws that your clan enforces?

    Ninj: Bylaw? Whats a bylaw?
Uber: Though shalt have at least 1 pink elite profile
Ninj: Yeah, the pink elites are important. That and respect. Be cool to people.

  • What do you do to build camaraderie in your ranks?

Wes (cheaptrickfan09): Everything we do builds camaraderie. The most active members of our clan are very close knit, which comes from loads of custom games in which we all try to participate. As well, we often like to break dance in our pink Elite profiles. Something that has been big for out clan, though, is our IRC channel (Dubbed the ORC by us, after a former Forerunner, Oscar, who is loved and missed by all {not dead, on a mission}.). That’s the easiest way to get to know everybody; join our ORC channel or jump in a custom game with us. Side Note: Drunken Sniping is a very good way to build camaraderie
Ninj: As a disclaimer, we don’t encourage drinking and halo. Especially not the underage kind. It makes some of us feel better though, as we wouldn’t be able to win otherwise.

  • What is the best way to get booted from your clan?

Uber: Any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct (name calling, taunting, cow slaying, etc…)
Ninj: Pretty much you have to have an undying hatred for happiness. There has been a grand total of one person ever removed from our clan, and believe me, it took a lot. I might boot someone if their GT expires, but looking at our list… I guess I have never done that.

  • What gametypes do you prefer?

Stee: Pink elite needlers-only oddball on Waterworks. No shooting or grabbing the oddball.
    Ninj: We call it pow-wow!

  • What is your poison/passion: matchmaking? customs? challenges? MLG?

    Sam (Soulfist7): Customs.
    Uber: Hiding?
Ninj: Im really at a loss. I would say our passion is our poison, or the other way around. We love just letting everyone play regardless of skill level. That is no way to win clan matches though. We have never backed down from a clan challenge, and we know how to have fun when we are getting our butts handed to us!

  • What is the closest game your clan has had in a clan challenge?

Uber: Not sure, but I need to share this story. We were playing assault on coagulation (we were defense) and I was at the opponents’ base on a truly splendid massacre when I hear the screams of my teammates over the headset. I quickly jack the opponents’ ghost and race across the map. As I approach our base, I see that they are arming the bomb in our base; I jump and hurl a wild frag grenade into the sky, towards our base. as I get to the base ramp, the grenade goes off…inside the base! it killed the opponent who was arming the bomb, then i hopped down inside and shotgunned the escort, and I saved the day. ta-da! Video of said awesome moment.
Ninj: I would like to add, while all this was going on, I was somewhere, getting killed.
Dan: To answer the question we’ve played like three. None were close.
Ninj: I think we got a kill against the HBO Lekgolos

    First! What?

My favorite part of this dialogue?

“KP was put in charge of the whole deal.”

Here’s 500 gamers. Sort ‘em out into teams. When you are finished, come back and we will challenge you with something harder.

I got 99 to keep track of, and I have bad dreams about them sometimes.

Nice write up Dweeze! I like reading about all the different nations in the Haloverse, since I didn’t really know anything about them until I joined up with TTL. Good stuff.

As Member Number 5 of the Forerunners (and one of the old guys…ie over 30), I describe my fellow clansmen as follows: you know when you’re on Live and you come across a player who is easy-going and not yelling profanities…that’s everyone in our group!

Cool, I’ve been curious about the HBO clan myself. I can imagine Stu going crazy trying to screen that many recruits.
