D1029 T0100 Y2006PraetoriaGuard

This week I am tackling an amazing community and clan. The Halo2Webring is host to alot of great subsites. There are two clans, the PraetoriaGuard and its sister clan, Promethian Guard. It has a database for custom games housed in H2Gametypes. Last but certainly not least they have the Halo2Cheaters site, which Tied the Leader is a partner of, which spotlights and bans cheaters that plague our games. Take a look inside the PraetoriaGuard and see what LordGideon had to say about his clan.

How and when did your clan start up?
We started the clan on December 24th, 2004. It was Christmas Eve and we’d decided that we didn’t like our old clan (The Overlord was MIA) and wanted to start a new one. Viola! PraetoriaGuard was born. We were all on Ascention at midnight standing on the spinning center spindle. About 10 of us were on.

What meaning does your clan’s name hold?
In Roman times, the “Praetorian Guard” were Rome’s Elite shock troops that the Caesar would send in to quell uprisings and also invade nations. It’s said that some nations surrendered just hearing that the Praetorian Guard were on their way. When we tried to get this name, someone already had it, so we sliced the “n” off of it and killed the space – “PraetoriaGuard” was born.

How many people call your clan home?
We currently have 30 active clan members and 18 inactive clan members. It fluctuates based on what people are doing with their lives and time.

How do you go about luring and screening recruits?
We’ve been fortunate in that recruits have come to us. Being one of the staples in the current community has it’s good sides. I’ve been to many Halo websites, and most of them have us in their links, or know who we are. That has it’s advantages. :)

What are some unique bylaws that your clan enforces?
We’ve got a set of rules that seem to be easy for people to follow. We enforce these rules on our forums as well. It’s helped us develop a band of loyal forum members.

  1. Be respectful, always.
  2. Don’t cheat, ever. If you think it might be cheating, it probably is.
  3. Treat all women (especially within the clan) with complete respect.
  4. Only overlords can send clan invites.
  5. You must not be in another clan.

What do you do to build camaraderie in your ranks?
Actually, we go out and randomly shoot a clan member. It really helps people pay attention to the rules. Really, we just play a lot of games together. We have a rather large private forum section that’s only viewable to people in the clan. We know everyone’s real name, where they live, and their phone numbers. We’ve built a pretty high level of friendship in the clan.

What is the best way to get booted from your clan?
Gee – that’s a tough one. There are probably three real ways to get “canned in the clan”.

  1. Cheating. This is a rule we have to enforce. We run Halo2Cheaters.com. How would it look if the people running the #1 Halo Anti-Cheating website had a bunch of cheaters in the clan? Unfortunetly, we’ve had this experience of booting a few people over this.
  2. Poorly representing the clan. We care about our image and maintaining a level of integrity in our clan. I’ve heard some people compare us to KSI – and, personally, I take that as an insult. KSI is large and quite unweildy. I’ve run into a TON of KSI members that are simply put – real jerks. If I was running KSI, that’d bug me incessently. We learn from other people’s mistakes, however, and we won’t let that happen to us. Treating someone like garbage, cussing like a sailor during a game, or simply talking about stuff you know you shouldn’t be talking about to younger members is cause for us to chat with a member to see what’s going on. We all tell our clan members – “To some people, you might be the only PraetoriaGuard member they ever meet. Make sure they leave your match with a good impression of the clan.”
  3. Bad attitude. We don’t have time for the “half-empty” scenario. Constantly whining, complaining, and bickering with other clan members will get you booted fast. We’re all friends here – clan members shouldn’t treat other clan members like ignorant idiots.

What gametypes does your clan prefer?
Personally, I play a lot of customs. You can bet your keyster it involves shotguns somewhere. My clan highly enjoys MLG, and other slayer variables. We play a ton of Team Training and Action Sack.

What is your poison/passion: Matchmaking? Customs? Challenges? MLG?
I prefer customs. Usually we have a large party, and that makes it difficult to hit up matchmaking. I’d say it’s a 50/50 matchmaking/customs.

What is the closest game your clan has had in a Clan Challenge?
We faced off with Schooly D (the first time) and let me tell you – that was a-mazing. It was close. Real close. It came down to a slayer tie-breaker and we won. (I think) the score was 100 to 95. ODST Titan saved us with a few well aimed frag grenades.

Thanks Gideon for the answers. If you would like to learn a little more about LordGideon then feel free to check out his interview, which is one of the first 22 Questions. Do yourself a favor and join the revolution to alleviate cheaters.

If you know a clan, or are in a clan that would like to be spotlighted in the Clan Profile then send me an email and tell me about it. Hope everyone enjoyed this week’s profile. Stop back next week for another great clan.

A really good read. I too have been wondering about KSI. Some of the members are really cool aquaintances and some I have on my friends list. But then others are real assholes.

How did the Saturday’s Clan Challenge fare then? I heard your were playing a really cool clan then. =)

Can any of you out there tell me how Hymntoninkasi got her name? Someone not from PG? And don’t go Googling it either. If you don’t know then you’ve already lost. The only reason I know is because I’ve been hanging around the PG forums for a very long time.

By the way this contest has no prizes except to be declared a smarty pants of Quikthnkr -1 level. ;]

I’ve challenged the PG twice now….

I think we got something in the works XerxdeeJ… I’m gonna go bug them some more this week. I must defeat Eisen in Ninja Assault.

Then we can be on the same team for Boss Hog.

Hymntoninkasi got her name from the sumerian beer godess ninkasi… it was a prayer they had when the beer was being brewed. Her ex bf (me) studied sumerian civilization and culture for research for a screenplay so she took the name of a sumerian diety when they played Halo 2, pre PG.
