It was a party. I brought the bean casserole, Mintz made some mini sandwiches and I think XerxdeeJ spiked the punch. Bad Deej.
If you don’t know what the hell I am talking about, and would like some back story about the previous Dead Man’s Potluck, then check out that write-up. Basically the idea behind the whole event is to thank everyone for all the interviews, press and inspiration. I sent some emails out and invited some of the previous interviewees, as well as some other friends of Tied the Leader, and the artist formally known as Dead Man’s Hand. It was kind of like grabbing the class clowns out of each class and throwing them all into their own class room, or in our case a pregame lobby. Since it is a “potluck” then everyone brings their own custom game and we go down the list and play everyone’s crazy concoction they bring to the party. The games end up being very casual and are all a blast to play regardless of the outcome.
Some people made it this time around that couldn’t last time, and there are some that came back for a second serving. Here is the list of attendees.
- XerxdeeJ ( Tied the Leader ) – The founder of the blog you are reading now, and overall Minister of Propaganda.
- Stuicide ( Tied the Leader ) – Previous writer on Dead Man’s Hand staff, Recruitment Officer of the Gunslingers.
- Demag0gue ( Tied the Leader ) – Writer for various blogs, previous writer for Dead Man’s Hand, TTL Gunslinger.
- Dweezle ( Tied the Leader ) – Total weirdo. I really have no idea who this guy is and who gave him any responsibilities.
- AirExplosive ( Tied the Leader ) – Code junkie for Dead Man’s Hand, and Global Moderator of the Gunslingers Forum.
- Louis Wu ( Halo.Bungie.Org ) – Master in Chief of THIS HBO, NOT THIS HBO , duhhhh.
- Mintz ( Halo: Portable ) – Founder, writer, and harlot of Halo: Portable. Part news, part portable-device-video/picture-making-Halo-themed-stuff site.
- Doodirock ( 2old2play ) – Czar of the mature gaming paradise. Safe from timmy = good games.
- Phreak ( 2old2play ) – The only female brave enough to join our party an put up with us.
- Sunburned Goose ( Wheezin Geezers ) – Overlord of one of the children of the 2old2play community. Should also be noted he plays rugby… ... yeah.
- Foo Mo Jive ( Podtacular ) – Founder and host of the Podtacular podcast and the community that ensued.
- Eisen Feuer ( Praetoria Guard ) – Loyal member of the Praetoria Guard, as well as a dabbler in machinema.
- Jungle Animal ( The Panic Attacks ) – Early interviewee of the 22 Questions, and long time supporter of all things TTL. He is an Overlord of an allied clan.
- Damian Lacedamian ( This Spartain Life ) – Last but not least, the host with the most, Damian Lacedamian of the This Spartan Life show.
With each game recap, the name of the custom will link to a captured video of that game. Eisen was nice enough to capture, chop, and post each game on his forums. I will also have the Bungie.net stats for that game to the side of it. Sit back, take a read, and pretend like you were there with us.

This game was my experimental dish I brought to the party. It is 6 rounds of Multibomb on Beaver Creek. The spicy part is that everyone starts with a BR and there are no shields, and each person only has 9 lives per round, hint the ‘cat’ in the name. It ended up playing pretty well. I think only once did the 9 lives come into effect so that wasn’t that big of a deal. The blue team did a great job with scoring the bomb on us enough to win most of the rounds. Perhaps I will revise this one in the future, make a ‘Partially Wounded Cat’s Pajamas’ and take away a few of the lives.

This was Demag0gues gametype ala shotgun. Basically this is King of the Hill with a stationary hill in the middle. Everyone has shotguns, frags, and no shields. It was soon discovered that I was host in this game as I got a Kill Frenzy and few Killtaculars and came through with the win. It was an interesting game though. At one point Deej just sat at the top of the spinning structure in the middle and I think I could hear him crying for all of the dead bodies littered about in the middle. They will be remembered.

It surpised us all to realize that this is actually a preset gametype (since Stu was lazy). We soon realized why we had never noticed it in the past. This game was easily the quickest one of the night. There were invisible spartans everywhere, spilling invisible blood from invisible BR shots. This game wasn’t that bad, but it didn’t last long because of the amount of people and the map.

This was one of the games we played at the last Potluck. I always love this game. It is 1 Flag CTF on Ascention with BR as your primary and a random weapon as your secondary. It is a blast to play. Its is really easy to defend the flag when it is at its spawn, but as soon as it leaves that front ramp, then its almost impossible to keep it there. It was fun to see what your secondary weapon was too. I was using the n00b combo for a decent amount of this game. I am not a very religious man, but someone told me once when god gives you a n00b combo then you make lemonade. I did just that.

This is a variant of Team King of the Hill. The more people in the hill, the faster your time goes up. The quirky thing about it is that everyone spawns with a Rocket Launcher and a Sniper Rifle. You can imagine how long you can stand in the hill before one of those hits your head. It was very fun to play though. There were rockets and sniper trails all over the map at all times. It made it that much more exciting.

This game was a 9 lives slayer on Beaver Creek. There was no time limit, so it came down to the last man standing. The first two rounds went fairly fast and were very intense, as people were going for kills and not being conservative with their lives. The third round played out a little differently. Everyone was more cautious so it took alot longer. It ended up boiling down to Eisen and Goose. Instead of waiting while they wander around and stumble on each other. They lined up at opposite ends of the creek and jousted for the remaining kills. Eisen came up on top with the win, some suspect he used steroids on his horse and fortified his lance.

This is always one of my favorite games. It is a King of the Hill with a stationary hill in the middle of the map. Four gauss hogs spawn on the map, and everyone is equipped with a Brute Shot, and a shotgun in their backpacks. Oh, and you have an overshield to make you feel a little safer, just a little. Since I was host, everytime I took someone for a ride in my hog I ended up flying up in the air and spinning around faster than I have ever seen. Poor Mintz, I think he threw up all over the turret in the back a few times.

As per request, we loaded up this redneck BBQ that is ‘Hogtied’. This is a Tied the Leader tradition. For months we have been ushering in new recruits with this insane custom boot camp. Basically there are four hogs on the map. Everyone has no shields and only a Plasma Pistol. All the action is found on the beach. There are splatters, beatdowns, and if you look close enough you can see a few people watching in lawn chairs. This is our destruction derby. Always a fun classic, and a great way to end a awesome night.

Thanks alot Eisen for capturing and hosting the videos. Also thanks to everyone that made it out this time around and I hope you enjoyed yourself. I appreciate all the support and interviews in the past, and heres to more gaming in the future. Good game everyone, good game. If you didn’t have the chance to make it this time around then there will always be the next time. Thanks everyone.

Wait! Jungle wins his two other team games, and then blows it in his own gametype? How can this happen?
This was great fun, and I’m glad I was able to make it to the party this time around. Do let’s do this again sometime soon.
You’ve become a master of hospitality, Dweez. Good times had. Sorry the local tempest made me lag out for the end of 9 lives.
Tons of fun to see Boss Hogg immoirtalized in Quicktime! Thanks, Praetorian.
Yeah but look how many kills he got that game Jobyn. I think he knew what he was doing, it was just a tied game
Also… let it be known that doodi was entertaining the same deluge of rain – hence his poor showings in later games.
Yeah he wasn’t talking at the end of one game and we gave him party lead accidently. Phreak called him and he said his house was flooding. Fight the Flood Masterchief… errrr… Doodi.
I LOVE playing BossHog.
Eisen and I tore it up on a GuassHog and he even managed to pull a barrel roll in the midst of all the fun.
That was good times, hate that I had to show up late, no one tasted my dish… I’d be happy to bring it down again.
Thanks for hosting TTl.
TONS of fun, Dweezle. Lookin’ forward to the next one! I’m going to have to fire up Boss Hogg more often, because I had a blast despite the lack of hog-time I had. I thought it was funny that we had no Zombies action, which lead me to think, “Zombies is the Pokemon amongst Halo 2 gametypes; everyone’s played it, everyone enjoyed it while they played it, but nobody cares about it anymore.”
Pot luck is extremely fun. Sorry I had to drop out early but I had some friends show up at the house. I hadn’t seen in a long time and they probably wouldn’t have like it if I ingored them (although I kind of wanted to do it!).
Anyway, I will have to come up with another game type for next time. Talk to you guys later.
Jungle
Wait for it. Wait for it.
“Now!”
